Subject: RE: Route for ambulances headed for Sibley Hospital
Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2003 11:40:35 -0500
Thanks Mr. Finney, I'll forward this to our Fire and EMS Operations group
for notice to our personnel.
Adrian H. Thompson
Chief, Fire and Emergency Medical Services
1923 Vermont Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20001
Dear Chief Thompson:
It would be appreciated if you advised your ambulance drivers headed
for
Sibley Hospital on MacArthur Boulevard that the quickest and least
disruptive route to the hospital's emergency room is not up Loughboro but
up Little Falls Road, a block north of Loughboro.
I make this request because frequently I see your ambulances, with
sirens blaring, turning up Loughboro to enter Little Falls Road from the
top of the hill. This not only adds a minute or two to travel time to the
emergency room (which is located off Little Falls Road), but it also
causes discomfort to residents living on Loughboro as well as occupants of
the hospital and its retirees in the Grand Oaks assisted living home.
I sympathize with the ambulance drivers because the route to the
emergency
room is not clearly marked on MacArthur Boulevard just before Loughboro.
There is a sign pointing right at Loughboro to get to Sibley Hospital but
no sign telling the ambulance drivers to go straight ahead to Little Falls
to get to the emergency room. (There is a small sign at Little Falls Road
put up by the hospital pointing up the hill to the emergency room.)
So if you will give route instructions to your ambulance drivers, I
will request Jean McCall, who is Chief of Traffic Operations in DDOT, and
Jerry Price, who is Chief Operating Officer at Sibley, to put their heads
together and see if they can come up with signs that will lead the
ambulance drivers up Little Falls Road. (For that reason I have sent
copies of my message to you to them.)
I am sure the neighbors will be grateful to all of you for bringing
greater peace and quiet to their neighborhood in the coming year.
A productive, rewarding New Year to all of you.
John Finney,
