Objective: Reduce intensity from
0.7 to 0.4 foot-candles on local streets, while still using 6-year life
High-Pressure Sodium vs 6-month incandescent.
Foot-candles are measured at ground-level, averaged for the area covered.
Street-level illumination guidelines are by
AASHTO &
used DC-wide by DDOT.
All new poles are Washington's #16 globe style - click on figure
to see this.
HPS bulbs are more energy efficient, are more available and give less
glare.Option #1:
Stick with poles staggered on either side of the
street, but lower individual lamp wattage from 150 watt to 100 watt.
Option #2: New poles only on
one side of the street, but stay with 150 watt.
Commissioners Hamilton and Shapley are working with DDOT
to see if
changes to Options 1 or 2 are possible; and if not, what other options are
possible.
