Street Projects Update (October 2003)
Sidewalk on East side of Arizona
-- DDOT has completed engineering drawings. I have placed the drawings at the reference desk of the Palisades Library for your review.  DDOT is awaiting public comments before proceeding. It would like to  hear any comments of support or suggested changes that can be accommodated.

You may send the comments to Colleen Smith, Ward 3 Neighborhood Transportation Planner at colleen.smith@dc.gov or by mail at 2000 14th St. NW, 7th Floor, D.C. 2009. I would appreciate a copy at finneyj@att.net or 5275 Watson St. NW DC 20016.

Striping of Loughboro-- The striping on Loughboro to reduce the traffic lanes to one-way each way on much of Loughboro as part of a "traffic calming" project is still on schedule for this striping season. That season continues until the temperature falls below 40 degrees for a week or so. The District Judge has been removed as an impediment. Turns out she was just worried about parking in front of her house on Loughboro

Resurfacing of side streets-- The resurfacing projects have fallen a few weeks behind schedule because of rainy weather but they are still on the schedule for this fall.

Traffic Light at Whitehaven and Foxhall-- Its status is a big mystery. Work started then stopped. People at DDOT responsible for the project ain't talking. At least they are not responding to e-mails or telephone calls. Out of character for the normally responsive DDOT. Perhaps it all has become entangled in the plans for a secondary road out of the proposed Mayor's mansion that the D.C. Planning office says is needed to protect the Mayor on his new mansion.

Incidentally, did you know that the District will give up $200,000 in property taxes so that the Mayor can live in a 16-acre, fenced-in enclave right off Foxhall? And that does not include the outlays for security forces to patrol the estate. Pretty expensive, isolated digs, it seems to me,  for a Mayor of the People.
